Lives depend on the ability to communicate important information in a way the patient understands.  Patients cannot follow instructions they don’t understand.

Agency for Healthcare Quality & Research created a Health Literacy Tool Shed, a database of health literacy measures including validated assessment tools.  Assessment tools are at http://healthliteracy.bu.edu.
